WINZ and dental costs: common questions
Is the WINZ quote free?
Yes. We don’t charge for a WINZ or StudyLink quote.
How much can Work and Income help with?
Work and Income says you can apply for up to $1,000 in any 52-week period for immediate and essential dental treatment, and you don’t have to pay that back. Income and asset limits apply, and in some situations they can help with more. Work and Income decides; check their website or call them about your own situation.
What does the grant not cover?
Work and Income lists regular check-ups, cosmetic treatment, scale and polish (unless it’s needed for a gum infection), orthodontics, molar root canal treatment and dentures as not covered by the dental grant.
Can Work and Income help with dentures?
Dentures aren’t covered by the dental grant, but Work and Income says there are other ways it can help, such as a payment you pay back over time. They usually ask for a quote, which we can give you for free.
How do I apply once I have the form?
If you’re already a Work and Income client, the easiest way is MyMSD under “One-off cost”. You can also call them, or drop or post the form to a service centre. Students can ask StudyLink.
